CALL TO CAMP: TROOP 61 SUDBURY MEET 1:00 SUNDAY RESOLUTE PARKING

Okkkkay……….here we go. Troop 61 Summer Camp Scouts:

We will meet this Sunday, July 16th,
at 1:00 in the afternoon,
in the Camp Resolute parking lot.

There will be 9 units assembling at that time, so look for a milk carton with
“Sudbury Troop 61″ written on it. I’ll see you there. We’ll assemble in the
parking lot, and travel in to our Campsite together as a unit.

Now for Transport of of Scout Trunks, if you’d like help getting your trunk up
to the Apache campsite, I will be at the Fairbank parking lot Sunday morning at
8:00am, with two very generous volunteers, Mr. Papapietro and Mr. McGee who have
offered the use of their very large cars to carry some trunks up to Resolute. If
you don’t have a wheeled red wagon or a dolly, this might be a good alternative
for you. Email me with RSVP please so I’ll know to wait for you.
Only one adult leader’s car will be allowed to drive into camp and up to Apache,
and we have to have that car out by 11:00. (That’s nine cars with all the
troops, so you can see why they restrict it, and there are Scouts still in
camp).

Tell your parents, if they didn’t read it in the Scout Summer Camp Guide, that
they should tell us when they drop you off how many tickets they need for the
Fri night BBQ.
The BBQ starts at 6:00 on Friday night, the last night of camp. Tickets are
$7.00 adults and $5.00 for children 5 to 10 years old, under 4 are Free. When
you drop off your Scout please let us know how many tickets you’d like so they
can buy the right amount of chicken during the week! It’s a great BBQ, you don’t
want to miss it, there’s usually salad, Cole slaw, baked beans, lemonade and
dessert.

After BBQ will be an awards ceremony for Scout activities during the week (not
merit badge advancements), and a funny skit put on by the camp staff(very
funny). The whole show, complete with Campfire will be finished at 9:30pm. It’s
a great way to bring closure to what we hope is a terrific week, and you don’t
want to miss it. You can bring the entire family. And don’t forget the bug
spray!

One extremely important request I have of parents, is please, when you pick up
your Scout on Friday to go home (and we hope and expect that Scouts will stay
the entire week), please please be sure they check out with me. If you both just
disappear, we then have a “Lost Scout” and likely will spend a considerable
amount of time and effort to search for him! The Scouts know this, but just to
repeat and for the parents who haven’t camped with us before - and this goes for
Any camping trip with Troop 61, no one should arrive late without letting us
know you are here, even in the middle of the night, and absolutely No One should
leave without coming to see me fist! If you tell someone else, I have no way of
knowing. Thanks in advance.

And last, the list of “WHAT TO REMEMBER AND WHAT TO FORGET ” to bring to Camp.

WHAT YOU SHOULD REMEMBER to bring:

1. Bug Spray/Repellant. No aerosols of any kind are allowed in camp because
they’re flammable - I’m talking here about a pump spray, which is OK. Bring your
favorite kind and use lots.

2. Your Water Bottle (or 2 or 3). It’s going to be a very hot start to the week,
and Scouts should carry their water with them everywhere in Camp. Remember to
drink before you feel thirsty, that’s the best way to prevent dehydration.

3. Sunscreen. Waterproof and lots of it. We’ll remind them to use it.

4. Mosquito netting and poles and rope to tie it up - remember we’ve been asked
by Camp not to use Duct tape and we’ll respect that wish.

5. Swimsuit of course, even non-swimmers should get wet in the heat, and Rain
Gear - the entire suit. Wed rain is predicted, and if it does, we’ll switch into
rainy day programs. There’s always lots to do in camp.

6. And very important - Bring your Scout manual! You will need it to get
signatures for your advancement, and if you wait till you get back in Sept, you
and I both will forget what you did. We’ll all be working on advancement
together as a troop and in the campsite. More to come.

7. You may, if you wish, bring your own tent. Let me know if you plan to do
this, because I will order a small sign for each personal tent which must be
posted on or near it saying “No Flames in Tent”. This one’s enforced by the
commissioner every day with Site inspection. And find a buddy to bunk in with!
It’s more fun that way. Don’t forget the flashlights.

8. And of course, don’t forget your Class A uniform! So you can get into the
dining room and have dinner! You’ll need it twice a day, for Colors and dinner,
but don’t need to wear it all day.

Now, for the “WHAT TO FORGET” and leave at home:

1. No medicines that are not labeled and handled by the Camp Nurse.

2. No fireworks, weapons, or sheath knives - only folding knives with a blade 4″
or less can be in camp. It’s a rule.

3. NO AEROSALS OR ACCELERANTS OF ANY KIND. This includes no Cigarette lighters,
Fire starters not made by the Scout using only natural materials as we taught in
meetings, no magnesium shavings or hand sanitizer which is flammable, no lighter
fluid, etc. This is a safety issue and we will have a zero tolerance for
anything of this kind, and if found may precipitate a call home, really.

4. And a Troop 61 rule : No electronics in camp, including cell phones,
walkmans, IPods, or any other device not Scout- powered. You can’t interact with
your troop if your attention is already with your I Pod, and cell phones just
make homesickness worse. Calls needed to be made home will be from the Adm ofc
with an adult leader involved.

That’s all guys. Stay cool, we’ll be in the water soon! And there’s a brand new
toy on the waterfront at camp this year that I think a few of you might be
interested in - it’s called the Aqua Launch! Obviously a water activity, I’m
told two men are allowed on it at once - ONE TO JUMP ON THE TRANPOLINE, AND THE
SECOND TO BE LAUNCHED INTO THE AIR/WATER! I can’t wait to try it. We have to
sign up for a troop AguaLaunch night - who cares about canoes!

Make sure you bring your folding pocket knife, you’re going to need it, and if
you do - have your Tot’n Chip card in your pocket!

Well, hope this helps. If you’re like me, you’ll start packing sometime tomorrow
night - not the recommended method, but the lists will also be fresh in my mind!
Be sure to welcome two Sudbury Scouts who will be boarding with us this week
from Troop 60 - Matt and Daniel Delaney. Any one need a bunk-mate?

See you all soon!
